What is Mandrill?#
Mandrill, also called Mailchimp Transactional, is Mailchimp’s transactional email service for application messages. Read more on the official website and in the official documentation.
Profile#
Mandrill supports API, HTTPS API, and SMTP delivery. The API schemes share the API key field; SMTP credentials are separate.
- API: mandrill+api (default) and mandrill+https require a Mandrill API key (secret).
- SMTP: mandrill+smtp requires an SMTP username and SMTP password (secret).
- The profile does not require extra endpoint settings for the API schemes.
Create the connection#
Before you begin, create an account and prepare the credentials for the selected transport. Complete any sender or domain verification required by the provider.
- In WordPress admin, open Jooosi Mail → Connections and choose New connection.
- Enter a descriptive Connection name and select Mandrill in Profile.
- Choose mandrill+api, mandrill+https, or mandrill+smtp and enter credentials for that scheme. Use mandrill+api unless your setup specifically calls for the HTTPS variant.
- Review the sender, routing, and advanced settings for this connection.
- Choose Create connection to save it.
For the shared connection workflow, see Provider profiles and transports.
Verify delivery#
Follow Send a test email and send it to a mailbox you can check. A test sends a real email. Check the mailbox and Jooosi Mail → Logs for the attempt status. See Email logs and resending for details.
Webhooks#
Mandrill webhooks can report send, deferral, bounce, delivery, rejection, click, open, spam, and unsubscribe events. Add the shared webhook secret to the connection so Jooosi Mail can validate Mandrill’s X-Mandrill-Signature HMAC. Follow Provider webhooks for the endpoint; copy the secret from Mandrill’s console and keep it private.
Troubleshooting#
- For missing-field validation, confirm the scheme and fill all required settings listed in Profile.
- After a failed test, re-copy the matching credential and inspect the connection status and email log.
- If an API connection fails validation, confirm the API key is in the API Key field; SMTP credentials are not interchangeable. If webhook requests are rejected, confirm the signing secret and X-Mandrill-Signature header reach WordPress.
